First Swap Apron- Done!

I had to battle through a ripped finger nail, nasty cold and car troubles, but I prevailed and my apron is done! I also was able to make a matching 50s hair flower to go with the black cherry cosmopolitan cocktail apron (I don't know if such a martini exists, but it definitely captures the colors of this apron). My favorite bit is the oval pocket trimmed in pink velvet ribbon and ruffles.

I hope my partner likes it. I'm planning on making one for myself with the leftover material :)

Aprons Away, "Snow" Glad...

I sent mine out Friday, cause we woke to this Saturday morning...
I wasn't going any where & being a newbie had to have mine out before Sunday.

Here is what I whipped up & sent off:
Hope my secret partner enjoys her cocktail-to-kitchen-reversible apron, vintage with a modern twist. As a first time swapper, I really enjoyed myself. Designing for someone else pushed me to try a new style, and it's always fun to expand on your skills.

Embellishments:
Lace, Bow, & Ruffles

Also sent along a few goodies with the martini glass, I attempted to hand-paint. Hope it all arrives in one piece, I used A LOT of bubble wrap:)

Sneak Peek!

WOW! I'm so impressed with every one's apron creations, beautiful ladies! Must admit, I've been feeling quite intimidated about posting here, and the fact that my apron is not yet finished. Made my pattern piece the other night, have all my elements cut out and ready to sew. I've been fretting over all the details, hope it includes everything my partner was wanting! Should be able to get my sewing done this evening, and have my apron mailed out by Friday! Shopping for a martini glass & goodies today:) So for now here's a peek at my double-sided creation:

Have a great day ladies!

Winner - Recipes - Invites

Wahoo ... AUDREY J is the winner of our cute little bar organizer tray! EVERYONE is still playing along and, I know, feverishly plotting creative aprons while scouring the stores for perfectly CUTE martini glasses.

And, Blog Author invitations have been sent so YOU can post pictures and all your creativity!

Ready for some yummy recipes??

Cynthia's favourite cocktail is a green apple martini (pictured above). Here's the recipe: 1 part vodka, 1 part sour apple liquor, 1 part apple juice. After a few, the amounts seem to change!!! I have also used pineapple juice instead of apple.

Amy K's recipe:
1) chill martini glasses in the freezer
2) crush ~1 cup of large strawberries, washed with stem and leaves removed, in a bowl and drain juice into a shaker (a mortar and pestle is handy for this step), leaving 2 strawberries for garnish
3) add crushed ice to shaker
4) pour 5 ounces of vodka into shaker (vanilla vodka can be used for a sweeter flavor)
5) add 3 tsp. of sugar or splenda
6) shake vigorously
7) pour enough sugar onto a small plate to cover surface
8) remove martini glasses from freezer
9) slice ends of 2 remaining strawberries vertically so that there is a slit in the lower half of each
10) place berries on rim of glass and slide completely around rim so that surface is moistened with juice
11) remove strawberry and place glass, rim down, on plate with sugar so that each glass has a sugar rim
12) pour contents of shaker evenly between 2 sugared glasses and then garnish with strawberry on rim
13) drink, enjoy, repeat

Fudgie (Betty)'s favorita Margarita! If you want to sip and enjoy use these measurements...1 shot glass of Jose Cuervo gold, 1 shot glass of blue curacoa, Jose Cuervo margarita mix. Use 8 ounce glass, fill with ice, pour liquors over ice and then fill to the top with margarita mix...no salt. Now if you want to sit and "veg" ...you may go to bed early too...use a short glass and the above measures! Viva la margarita! Dirty Goose Martini Grey Goose Vodka Big stinkin olives...stuffed with pimento Shaker filled with ice 3 ounces of goose, dash of olive juice, Shaken NOT stirred. Must be really chilly! Pour into chilled martini glass and garnish with as many olives you can get into the glass without wasting the goose! from Chelsea:
My two recipes are very simple, and can be served in a martini glass or just a plain ol rocks glass.

Stoli Blueberi Vodka & Lemonade (I prefer Simply Lemonade, but any kind will work)
Pour a shot of Stoli Blueberi in a glass with ice, then fill with lemonade. If serving in a martini glass, shake ingredients with ice, then strain into martini glass.

Absolut Mango Vodka & Cranberry Juice
Pour a shot of Absolut Mango in a glass with ice, then fill with cranberry juice. If serving in a martini glass, shake ingredients with ice, then strain into martini glass.

Christine's Favorite Shooter Chocolate Cake Shooter 1/2 shot Absolut Citron, 1/2 shot Frangelico, 1 wedge Lemon (sugar-coated). Mix equal parts Absolut Citron and Frangelico into a shot glass. Drink the shot, and follow it immediately by sucking on a sugar-coated lemon wedge.

Grace's Black Russian
2 oz of vodka
1 oz of Kahlua
add ice cubes in a glass, pour in vodka & Kahlua, stir & enjoy.

Chocolate Espresso Martini
2 tblsp raw sugar
2 tblsp finely chopped bitter sweet chocolate
2 tblsp (pre-made) espresso
1 1/2 oz vodka (grain not potato)
1/2 oz creme de cacao
long twist of lemon
pour sugar & chocolate in wide saucer & mix. Wipe rim of glass w/lemon & roll glass into sugar/choco mix. In the cocktail shaker add ice, espresso, vodka & c.d.cocao. Shake well & strain into the martini glass. Garnish w/the lemon twist & enjoy!

Jenn in Alaska: Mock Champagne Ingredients 2 (2 liter) bottles ginger ale, chilled 1 (46 fluid ounce) 1 of can pineapple juice, chilled To make Ice ring: Fill a ring-shaped cake pan to 1/2 with ginger ale. Freeze until partially frozen. At this stage you can place edible flowers, or pieces of fruit around the ring. Fill pan with ginger ale and freeze until solid. Place in punch bowl just before serving. In a large punch bowl, combine 1 bottle ginger ale, pineapple juice and white grape juice. Virgin Pina Colada Ingredients 1 cup ice 1 1/4 cups pineapple juice 1/2 cup milk 1/2 cup heavy cream 2 tablespoons white sugar In an electric blender, blend ice, pineapple juice, milk, cream, and sugar. Blend until smooth

Jennifer Wo.'s ORANGE FREEZE

1 six ounce frozen orange juice
1 cup milk
1/2 cup Vodka
1/2 cup water
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 cup sugar
1 tray of ice cubes

Put all of the above in a blender. Blend until the ice is chopped up. Pour into your lovely martini glass and enjoy!

Julie's latest craz from her cocktail cabinet is a FRENCH MARTINI French Martini 2 oz Vodka ½ oz Chambord 2½ oz Pineapple Juice Pack a shaker full of ice and add all ingredients. Shake or stir*. Stain into a martini glass. Garnish with a lemon twist.

Marlene's Cosmopolitan- The best way to make and only way to go in my opinion! The trick is in the real fruit juice! I don't know the one Glass version of this. I made it for a bridal shower so it was in a big ole pitcher.

Fill the pitcher with 3/4 of Cranberry Juice Cocktail
5-6 shots of Vodka ( I like Absolut)
5-6 shots of Cointreau or other orange flavored Liquer (Triple Sec is too sweet in my taste)
The juice of 2-4 oranges and 2-3 limes (this is really to taste)
This drink is so good but deceptively strong if you make it right! It's also a very forgiving mixture so feel free to play!

From San-Dee: The O's Favorite Gin Martini Fill a rocks glass (if you don't know what that is, it's a glass about 3-4 inches high, about 3 inches wide) with ice cubes. Pour about one finger (the height of your finger when held horizontal to the bottom of the glass) of dry vermouth over the cubes. Swirl the vermouth around twice, then cover the top of the glass with your fingers and pour the vermouth out (or use a cocktail strainer if your guests are picky). Fill the glass about 2/3s full with Tanqueray-don't use cheap gin , it spoils the taste-and gently swirl around once. Add a toothpick with 2-3 green olives with pimento centers, and you have one fabulous drink. And yes, gin is an acquired taste. You can also make it with vodka, same way. Some people like a twist of lemon or pearl onions instead of the olives. (This is a classic martini recipe, not one of the favor type popular now. And don't forget the James Bond preference for a martini that is "Shaken, not stirred".)

Stephanie:
Here is the recipe for a lemon drop martini (taken from kingofcocktails.com)
Lemon Drop Martini Recipe

6 parts Lemon-flavored vodka
1 part Dry vermouth
Granulated sugar
Lemon twist

Rim a chilled martini glass with granulated sugar. Combine liquid ingredients in a cocktail shaker with cracked ice and shake well. Strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with lemon twist.

From Teresa: Love all those martini mixes you see but don't really drink? Make a mock...One part mixer and one part Stirrings Club soda with ice. Found a great mix at Target...Chocolate Peppermintini! YUM

NEW Swappers: mail to Shawnee before January 31

All Others Mail After: January 31

But Mail Before: February 8
Okay ladies, I’m SO excited about this new swap. But, I have a True Confession to make – I’ve never drank a martini in my life! I actually don’t like alcohol very much, just an occasional wine cooler. But, I LOVE the cute martini glasses!! I see them everywhere and I want to own dozens of them! And, the Flirty Apron Swap blog is all about the cute! So, I hope you’ll join in and sip “mocktails” if the hard stuff isn’t your thang. Since I’m new to this martini-thing, I really appreciate if you’d also include your favorite cocktail or “mocktail” recipe when you register. I need to branch out!

In this swap, participants will create a handmade “Martini Madness” apron. I strongly suggest a cocktail apron, wispy and cute, perfect for entertaining. However, you are allowed to request something more practical, even though it is the sewer’s choice. You will include one CUTE martini glass. DO NOT feel like you have to spend lots of money on this – I see martini glasses all the time at Goodwill or other resale shops, craigslist, and Crate and Barrel sells the cutest ones for under $10. Just get creative.

The martini glasses and aprons must be sent by February 8 (or earlier, if you're new to the Flirty Apron Swap) and remember to wrap them carefully – I would hate for someone to spend time and money to buy or create a beautiful glass only for it to show up in pieces!

If you have anything you'd like to donate for a giveaway, just let me know and I'm happy to highlight your shop or blog in exchange.

Normal rules apply (aka you and I will be email buddies)
