Embellished Gloves Tutorial

Here's a repost of my gloves tutorial. I've made six different cuff variations since this one, and am working on more tutes!

Gloves Tutorial:

Supplies: Gloves, leftover apron material, leftover trim and coordinating ribbon

The gloves are easy-peasy, just a bit finicky. Purchase Playtex gloves in a color that coordinates with your apron. Then cut two 24"x7" pieces of the (polka dot) material leftover from your apron and fold into 24"x3.5" strips (A). Finished the bottom edges of the strips (I used a zig-zag stitch, but serged would be best). (I corrected the strip measurements once I made them again! Sorry if I frustrated anyone!)

After marking the centers, gathered these strips to 12" which is the circumference of the gloves. Then cut a length of the white ruffled trim to the same 12" (B) and mark the centers. Match centers of both trim, evenly distribute the gathers, and stitch the polka dot ruffle (A) onto the white trim (B) about 1/4" up from the bottom so as to have a clean edge on the gloves.

Next, pin this double trim onto the gloves and carefully baste about 1/4" from the bottom of (B), then stitch along the very bottom edge of (B), being careful to hold the top of the gloves against the trim and not catch in your stitching unintentionally. This is the tricky part, since it does not fit around the free-arm of most machines. Stitch together the raw edges of trim, overlapping slightly.

Form a bow with the coordinating ribbon, hand sew onto the center front of the gloves and you're done!

Valentines Apron Sew Along

Hi all!

Since I'm not hosting a Flirty Apron Swap for Valentines Day, I thought I'd sponsor a Sew Along for everyone who is interested. This will be a fun show-and-tell for the holiday that perfectly lends itself to this flirty and fun fashion accessory.

Post in the comments section links to any blog posts about your sewing project. Additionally, please join and post pictures at the Flickr Valentines Apron group, http://www.flickr.com/groups/valentinesaprons/.

To show the world that you've joined this Sew Along, I've created a button for you to post on your blog. I NEED MORE! I would love to receive your button creations and will post them on the sidebar for all to see. I'm sure you'll do better than mine; I always make the writing too small!

PS - Don't you LOVE the cupcake aprons in the banner? If you don't feel like making your own Valentines Apron this year, head on over to Lana's Sassy Apron Shop on Etsy. She creates the most amazing aprons, and at VERY reasonable prices!

More Swap Info

For all who are wondering, my new swap with Lucy will not take the place of the regular Flirty Apron Swaps. I'm working on some fun new themes and will have something posted soon. I'd love some feedback, too, about themes, how your swapping experiences have been, etc.

Hope you got lots of new sewing goodies in your stockings!

NEW SWAP!! Sign Up Details

Sassy and Flirty Apron Swap – Sugar, Spice, & Everything Nice
Last Day to Sign Up: January 9, 2009
Last Day to Mail Packages: February 2, 2009

I invite you to join Lucy and Shawnee's first co-hosted apron swap! We've been chatting for months, sharing ideas, getting to know each other, and talking about the ups and downs of hosting swaps. We are so excited to team up together for a special Valentine's Day swap. In addition to using an online registration form and sharing the responsibilities of assigning partners, we are also initiating a $5.00 participant fee to go toward prizes and "angel" contributions for the participants whose pals drop out from the swap.

We always hope that the angels needed will be few and far between, as we'd like everyone to fulfill their commitments to the exchange. However, in the past, the funding for angel contributions came from either swap participants or from the hostesses themselves. This time we thought we'd help defray that cost by collecting for it up front.

As always, we would encourage you to be sure you can commit to the swap requirements before signing up, especially as we only have room for a limited number of participants this round. A quick decision will guarantee your spot!

If you would like to sign up, click on the "BUY NOW" links to right for Shawnee's team and you will be directed to a PayPal checkout. Once payment is made, you click on Return to Merchant and will be taken to the registration screen. Then, visit the swap blog at http://sassyflirtyapronswap.blogspot.com to save your favorite swap badge and post on your own blog!

If you have any questions, please let either Lucy or Shawnee know right away at lucyandshawnee@yahoo.com!

Here is one more thing we would like you to consider before joining this swap: To join in this swap you don’t have to be an expert seamstress, but you do need to be experienced enough to pull a nice apron off. We expect an apron that would pass in 8th Grade Home Economics - not an "A" but at least passable.

We don’t want to get too fussy here and scare anyone off. As Lucy says, we love to see the work of new seamstresses and have had some as partners in swaps and have loved the work they do. It is fresh and full of enthusiasm. If you feel that your work is not good enough, you can also swap an apron made by another crafter. There are many at Etsy worth buying from. Just be sure to give credit where it is due and honor the apron artist!

Aprons in MO

I have to share my apron happiness.

I received this lovely apron from Amy J in GA.
Apron 5
Isn't it lovely! Now I just need a finished kitchen to wear it in.

Here is the apron I made for my partner. She requested pink.
Apron 8
Only problem was she asked for a half not a full. I missed that detail until after shipping. Sorry! I hope it still works for you!

Thanks Mary in Georgia

Mary in Georgia,

Thank you so much for the beautiful apron you made me. It's totally me!! I love it. My Christmas decor and my tree are decorated in creams, pinks and golds and now my apron matches!!

I would send you a proper thank you but I can't find a email listed for you and the return address on my package was so smeared I only know that you live in Georgia.

Thank you again for such a lovely apron. The fabric is so rich and luxurious. I love the gold and pink print that is in it. When I figure out how to put a picture on here I will so everyone can see how beautiful it is.

Hugs,
Donna Payne

Thanks Julie!!!

Julie, thank you so much for this great apron! I love, love, love it! Not only is it flirty, it's sassy, pretty, fun, Christmasy and more words that I can't drag out of my brain. I can tell you this, my family is going to see me in this apron every day until Ephiphany!! My mom usually does all the baking, but this year...I'm going to put on this apron and walk through the kitchen where she is working. Then I'm going to turn around and leave the kitchen, because I don't want to get anything on my apron!
And look y'all -- it's reversible!! The camera didn't come close to capturing the beauty of the fabric, but take my word for it -- it's divine.
Check out the coordinatin pocket!!
So, Julie - thank you! Merry Christmas. I love it!

WINNER CONTEST #4 and Angels Needed

Well, we're coming to the end of this wonderful swap. I HAVE LOVED THIS THEME! The aprons you all have created define Flirty!! I can picture everyone at their Christmas and New Year's parties, laughing and shining with confidence. PLEASE post any photos on our Flickr Group so we can be green with envy and share your joy.

I'm very impressed at how well you all have kept on track, sending me messages upon posting and receiving your aprons. This is a very busy time of year and I appreciate everyone upholding their commitments. I DO have one person who is not responding to my emails and a few packages that were supposed to be on the way a long time ago but not arrived yet, without the required tracking number confirmation. Would any of you be able to Angel a package, with the same love you put into your original partner's package? If so, email me and I'll send you details along with many thanks.

Now, for the fun part ..... many more thanks go to Jean for sponsoring our final contest. Jean is a sweet, generous, and talented quilter/apron swapper. Please start following her blog if you didn't during the contest! Here's a picture of the prize Christmas stocking and all the goodies

.... and the winner is ...... Kim H from AL! Congratulations!!

Only 100 swappers will be registered in December/100 in January so space will be at a premium.

A Blue Christmas

Here is my beautiful Holiday Hostess Apron from Dawnise. It's absolutely perfect for the blue and silver Christmas that I have planned for this year. There's even sweet little silver bells attached to the corners of the skirt. I LOVE IT! Thanks so much, Dawnise. Like a dummy, I forgot to put on the fun pink beaded necklace and bracelets that she sent along with the apron. Dawnise also included an apron pattern from a local designer in her area and a recipe for lemon cookies that will be coming out of my oven shortly.
Thank you, Dawnise, for a great package and thank you, Shawnee for another fantastic swap!
Happy Holiday everyone!

I got my apron from Terri in FL and I am swooning! When I saw posts on the blog, I was hoping I would receive this masterpiece. Here is my beautiful apron, being "modeled" by my nephew in my sewing room:

And the pin is lovely too, I wore it on my lapel all day (just got too excited to get a picture). yay! Thanks Terri! Kristin J in CA

Finally

A HUGE appology to my partner. I am so so sorry I didnt get this in the mail yet. I just finished it today. I hope it will be worth the wait! Here is a peek at the apron and goodies.

Holiday apron

I had a lot of fun putting together a swank apron for my partner. Picking out some bling for her was just as much fun!!

Finally done

I am finally done with my apron and will send it off in the mail today. Instead of showing the finished product, I thought I'd show the beginning. This was my daughter's Christmas dress last year. I hope my partner likes it.

Thank you!! - No Email?

Meg,

I received my package late yesterday, then had to run off to church, and spent until the wee hours of the night last night trying to find a way to send a thank you e-mail, to no avail! (Forgive my novice ignorance, as all I had was the blog addy, but couldn't find a way to e-mail there either?)

Anyway, THANK YOU!!!! My hubby wanted to know if there was any way HE could e-mail this lady and tell her thank you? LOL, I told him no, but suffice it to say, he loved the apron as well!

Meg included this red half apron, a handmade to match headband, two turtledove handmade ornaments, and a handwritten recipe for her Christmas Morning Cassarole. Here's a picture of me with the apron on:

It has two detachable fabric roses at the top, and three perfect little pleats at the bottom. Just darling. Here's a picture of the apron up-close with the turtledoves and recipe card, so sorry, didn't get the headband in the picture, as it was on my head and I forgot! Thanks again Meg! If I can figure out a way to send you a thank you e-mail separately, I will!
