Lucy Apron Was Fun!

Ok, so this was such a fun swap...I always enjoy the creativity, thoughts & ideas I see on all of these swaps...At first I was a bit reluctant to join in this one but after perusing the Internet for fabric I got excited to try my hand...I used an apron that I had, made a template/pattern from it and this is what I came up with. Pink & Chocolate! I even found a chocolate candy bar with a
"I Love Lucy" label. How cool is that?
Finding "Lucy" stuff proved not so easy for me, but I did find a few and a I made a few and just had fun doing so. I hope my swap partner enjoys the apron & all the goodies. You can click on the images to see a closer view.
Thanx Shawnee for this fun challenge.

I Love Lucy Items

I have seen a few posts about people searching for I Love Lucy items. I found this website while I was looking for I Love Lucy stuff. If you are still in need of something, check the I Love Lucy SuperStore.

A sneak peek.......

Just a lil peek .....I wonder if my partner can figure out who she is!

Fun Times With Aprons

Hey other apron swappers! I had a lot of fun making the apron for my swap partner and I really hope she likes it. Since other people have been putting pictures of their creations, I figured this was ok. (If not, please delete me). It is a bit, um, bold, and not exactly "Lucy-ish," but I can totally picture Lucille Ball wearing this in her younger years. Can't you?

She was a pretty sassy lady, right? You have to admit though, it is flirty. Please just tell me I wasn't too wild and crazy for this swap. From the preferences my partner put, I thought she might like this.

P.S. I also had a tough time finding actual Lucy items and even retro housewife stuff (maybe I didn't look hard enough), but I found fun stuff here and there that I believe to be essentials for a housewife. Awesome stuff in my opinion.

My 1st Flirty Apron Swap by Becky S.

It was a blast!

It was also a challenge. My swap partner (without revealing too much) didn't describe herself as a "girly," lacy type girl. I wanted to make a practical yet fun apron though. Here's what resulted.........

I used a vintage pattern with a sweet bib and a sorta swingy skirt. And rick-rack. As EllynAnne Geisel says - one can nevah have enough rick-rack!

I hope my swap partner likes what I made and enjoys the gifty things. (Did anyone else have trouble finding actual Lucy items?)

Thank you again to Shawnee for Hostessing all of this. Can't wait til the next one!

{{Hugs,}} Becky

I love lucy gifts

As a French resident I am not much inspired about the I love Lucy accessories to send with my apron.
Please, do you have any suggestions?

A Little Input, Please ...

This swap is so much fun!!! I have been POURING over I Love Lucy episodes lately and have come down to two different apron designs based on two different episodes. Now, I am not going to share the actual designs I have come up with, rather, the inspirations. So, please tell me which you would love more. My family vote was a tie, so I need some more input here. Frankly, I LOVE both ideas. But, I need to settle on ONE for now and get sewing (deadline is just around the corner). So please, PLEASE let me know which one you would rather receive!
THANK YOU LADIES!!!
Option One - Lucy and Ethel wear the same dress:

Option Two - Lucy and the Operetta

Happy sewing (or buying ;) everyone!!!

Cheating...

So it's not quite cheating, but kinda feels like it!

I BOUGHT my apron for the swap today. Time has just got away with me, and I seriously haven't had time to even draft up a real pattern, let along make one yet. Things like tax returns, and my husband's play have got seriously in the way!

I DO have a few cute goodies to put with this apron though, and I'm putting a little Australian spin on the whole 'flirty'/'retro'/'housewife' thing. Hopefully they'll arrive from the ebay seller soon! The apron I bought though is SUPER cute. It's from a local store here in Queensland.

So are there any other 'cheaters' out there who haven't had time to make their aprons?!

Lucy Loves Polka Dots

I'm on the hunt for just the right buttons and then this red and white polka dot extravaganza will be off and running to my dear partner!

I'm not gonna lie. I've had a love hate relationship with this apron. But in the end ... it's all LOVE. In case any of you happen to be on your knees in prayer that this little diddy will coming your way ... wait for it ... wait for it ... wait for it...
It will be accompanied by the entire first season of "I Love Lucy" on DVD.

Can't wait for the next swap!

With a Little Bit

of luck, I'll get most of my Lucy swap finished this week. I had a great apron going for my partner, and then decided I had to keep it myself---isn't that terrible? But I promise you, dear partner, you will not be disappointed!!

I think the best part of the swaps is going to everyone's blog/website and seeing what they're up to. I haven't posted a whole lot of pictures lately because I haven't been doing a whole lot of sewing lately: since the double rinse cycle laundry tub overflow (disaster) a lot of stuff has been piled on my sewing table. But yesterday the light went on-I can move everything that doesn't belong there to the couch and sew! Since we can't watch TV down there, I can use the couch for storage for the next little while....

I hope everyone else is having fun and won't have any "esplaining" to do before the swap ends...

Quick update

So I realized early on that this swap was not going to showcase my sewing skills. Summer has just run away from me this year. But leave it to Etsy to save the day! I found so many great aprons just perfect for this swap. Even better I found a lady NanaCarol's Shop (http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6359755) not far from my hometown that had the perfect apron for my partner. She even had a small version for my 6 year old that I had to buy too..(I didn't want to leave her out) Now all I have to do is pick up some retro kitchen ware and I will be set to ship.
**Don't worry I will post pictures of them all soon**

my favorite "I love Lucy"

Ok, I love so many, let me think...ok,ok I love Lucy's surprise birthday party, when she thinks no one remembers and goes to the park and hooks up with the salvation army band, "the friends of the friendless".

But I also have to include the one where the Ricardo's and the Mertz's go to dinner and Lucy keeps changing her dinner choice to whatever the next person orders, I have done that a few times myself!

Can Anyone Switch Partners? -- THANK YOU

I made a boo-boo ... I accidentally assigned a daughter to make her mama's apron!! Is anyone willing to take on a different partner? Please let me know asap. Thank you, darlings. I'll blame it on my fever!

-- EDITED -- THANK YOU!! I have my switcheroo!

Still Looking!

So I've bought my I Love Lucy Fabric (I'll need to buy some more for the man part of the apron- this is patterned fabric with pictures of Lucy- so it will be a feature somewhere), but I am STILL looking for a pattern!!

I want to make a bib apron, so if anyone has any patterns they've found online, then I would love it if you could post it in the comments!

But otherwise, how is everyone going with their aprons? Are you all loving being creative and inspired?!

Something Lucy would love...

I went shopping the other day and got a couple things Lucy would love....but I can't tell you the colors because you might be my partner. I can't tell you what the fabric looks like either. You'll just have to wait and see.

more from Idaho

well, the apron is done and it is cute. The only thing that keeps me from keeping it, is the joy I know my partner will have in receiving it!!! It was most fun to go out and do a little "vintage shoppin"...I found a few things for myself too. Now I just have a few more things to collect...

new kid in town

well, I am a new kid on the block and very excited to be! I have already started my apron and I have to say it is fun to make an apron for an "unknown" friend. A few months ago my knitting group went on a retreat to Seattle. We had a surprise bridal shower for my daughter and as a special surprise my girlfriend and I made 14 aprons as gifts for them! What an adventure, lots of "way past midnight" nights!
