Ugh. I was
so excited to participate in my first apron swap. I mean, Mary Englebreit? Duh - count me in! I was all done with the add-ins. I just had a bit left to finish my ME fried-egg flower-inspired shabby chic apron and then it was off to the post office to mail my goodies...
And then The Bad happened.
I scorched the fabric and ruined the apron. *sigh* Now I have to figure out if I send a vintage black-and-white checked apron on time or make another apron, but send it late.
What would you do?
I thought you were talking about the weather, as it's scorching here, feels more like Aug!!
ReplyDeleteOh no! I'm so sorry this happened on your first swap - as if it being a first swap was nerve-racking enough (at leas for me it is)!
ReplyDeleteHow much did your scorch? How bad is it? Can you applique over it? Can it be salvaged in any way?
Oh my - I'd have had kittens right then and there. Hopefully, you can salvage it in someway or that you have the time/effort to do whatever you need to do. I wish you the best of luck in a fantastic recovery. Just so you know - I've done similar things like pocking a hole with my seam ripper right in the middle of a finished apron...argh.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the applique idea would work!
ReplyDeleteIt gives an opportunity to be creative! Don't fret!
I'd send it as is with a card attatched explaining what happened and letting your partner know that you will make another one to replace it and send it as soon as possible. That way, she can receive her package on time and know that she gets the fun of waiting for the replacement. Things like this happen to everyone. Sometimes you just gotta row with the oars you got :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful suggestion Karen-- Crystal, if I am your partner--send as is!
ReplyDeleteI just thought I was done :)
ReplyDeleteBesides someone might have a swap to honor "My favorite Apron--disasters"
ROFL - Debbie, you slay me! I posted pictures of the "save" - if you could call it that - and I'm going to make another to send later.
ReplyDeleteGood Save--and thanks for posting your decision! I am anxious to see who your secret partner is! She is gonna love it :)
ReplyDeleteI agree, if its salvageable at all, do it! Or put a pocket OVER it. I did that a couple years ago when I used a vintage fabric in one of Shawnee's swaps.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if you've thought of this, but what about using some glitter to cover the area? maybe like the glitter glue stuff on that red flower and then maybe some white on the black piece(s) so that it flows? I'm so sorry this happened to you!
ReplyDeleteI sorry for you mishap, but I think you have some great suggestions.
